Community Guidelines

Important Information:

The Sonder Community Project is a platform of self-expression and peer to peer counseling. Our forums are a safe, anonymous place to go and connect with those who are willing to help and support those who having a tough time with related experiences in a productive and positive way. Our mission is to inspire change, strengthen mental wellness and promote growth within our community. Creating a positive atmosphere and bringing a new found knowledge to the untold stories of so many.

The Sonder Community Project is not a replacement for trained professions. We do offer “Professional Advice” from certified counselors but everything else on posted on this site is peer to peer counselling. We are concerned about everyone in the forums but we are not professional counselors and therefore are not equipped to deal with users whose situations exceed the scope of this site’s purpose and capability to help. If you or someone you know is having thoughts of suicide, or thoughts of hurting others, please call 911, or the crisis hotline: 800.273.TALK (8255) We encourage anyone whose needs are greater than we can meet, to seek professional support, or call a crisis service.

The Sonder Community Project is driven by your epic stories. Help us to make the site a positive and supportive atmosphere by following the guidelines below. These guidelines are enforced, and posts that are not in line with our rules will be deleted, and IP addressed can be removed from the site. We aim to maintain a site that promotes growth and inspires change.

Malicious Bigotry and Hate. Don’t actively promote violence or hatred against individuals or groups, on the basis of race, ethnic origin, religion, disability, gender, age, veteran status, or sexual orientation. While we firmly believe that the best response to hateful speech is not censorship but more speech, we will take down malicious bigotry, as defined here.

Promotion and Glorification of Self-Harm. Don’t post content that actively promotes or glorifies self-harm. This includes content that urges or encourages readers to cut or injure themselves; embrace anorexia, bulimia, or other eating disorders; or commit suicide rather than, e.g., seeking counseling or treatment, or joining together in supportive conversation with those suffering or recovering from depression or other conditions. Dialogue about these behaviors is incredibly important and online communities can be extraordinarily helpful to people struggling with these difficult conditions.

Spam. Don’t abuse social gestures, send unwanted messages, or aggregate content in a less-than-meaningful way. Chain letters, mass mailings, and duplicate postings are not allowed on The Sonder Community Project. Please post each story once, to the most appropriate topic.

Solicitation. Political campaigning, religious preaching, and commercial advertisements in any site content, including private messages, is not allowed. If you would like to advertise on The Sonder Community Project, please contact us.

If we conclude you are violating these policies, you may or may not receive notice, at our discretion. If you don’t explain or correct your behavior, your account may be suspended and/or your IP address may be blocked. We do our best to ensure fair outcomes, but in all cases we reserve the right to suspend accounts or remove content, without notice, for any reason, but particularly to protect our services, infrastructure, users, or community.

These community rules were written to complement the The Sonder Community Projects terms of service. It’s really important that you are familiar with the terms of service.
